This is a Reautomaton Unit. They're the reanimated remains of bioengineered synthetic lifeforms that combine human anatomy with animal forms. They are used to store things inside their abdominal cavities. Once something enters the gelatinous cavity, it cannot be removed or escape unless the RA Unit expels it. The cartilaginous material between the vertebrae and the nerve within is incredibly elastic, allowing the RA Unit to store objects much larger than the initial cavity. The pelvis is also able to deform and support large objects. While most RA Units are lanky, some exhibit a more heavyset shape in order to support even more massive objects. Even if an RA Unit is damaged too severely to reform, the gelatinous abdominal orb will remain fully functional and trap whatever is inside until the RA Unit is regrown.
They started as mindless drone-like entities, but seem to have gained self awareness. This one calls itself Menthol, and will filter second hand smoke, metabolize it, and expel the carcinogens in an inert matter. It seems to have a sense of irony.
RAU are intrinsically dead organisms that are re-purposed using masks to be storage containers. As such, they tend to deteriorate. The age of a RAU can be determined by how decomposed the mandible is, among other things.
This class of RAU are made to be load bearing, heavy lifters. They can store objects much heavier than themselves and still remain mobile at a walking speed.
These unit types are most common and versatile. Able to store small to medium size and weight, they tend to be faster than their Tank counterparts - load permitting.
